Indie Genius Best Movies Ever
Best Movies Ever was glad to see that Winters Bone keeps winning awards and just got top nominations at the 2010 Gotham Independent Film Awards. Great for a movie that most of you probably haven’t seen yet.
If you all remember, another woman took the top noms and awards at the 2009 Gotham Independent Film Awards for a little film called the Hurt Locker which went on to take the Oscar beating out her ex-husband James Cameron. Could Debra Granik’s “Winter’s Bone” do the same? Winter’s Bone took the most nominations for the 20th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards, which were announced this afternoon.
Winter’s Bone was nominated for best feature, best ensemble performance (for Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Dale Dickey, Lauren Sweetser, Garret Dillahunt, and Kevin Breznahan), and best breakthrough performance (Lawrence). Debra Granik was in good company for Best Feature as the film was joined by Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan,” Derek Cianfrance’s “Blue Valentine,” Lisa Cholodenko’s “The Kids Are All Right,” and, one that Best Movies Ever was quite surprised at, Matt Reeves’ “Let Me In.”
Women ruled the nominations this year as “Bone” was joined by “The Kids Are All Right” and Lena Dunham’s “Tiny Furniture” as the awards’ only multiple nominees, each taking two. Female-directed films also made up 2 of the 5 documentary nominees (“The Oath,” “12th and Delaware”), and stood out with nominations of “Kids” and female-heavy casts like “Please Give” and “Life During Wartime.” I Spit On Your Grave aka Day Of The Woman tanked at the box office, but these women had their own day!
