Best movies ever found this weekend’s box office interesting without much surprise. Oliver Stone had his best opening numbers ever with Wall Street 2, but the anticipated sequel (23 years later) didn’t live up to Fox and Hollywood’s expectations. Ben Affleck’s The Town was solid for it’s second weekend.

1. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (Fox) NEW [3,565 Runs]
Friday $7M, Saturday $7.6M, Weekend $19M

Wall Street 2 was one of those films that we at best movies ever wasn’t sure if people would be wanting to watch since our financial meltdown (and yes they keep saying the recession is over, but tell that to all the people still on unemployment and looking for any type of work) is still being felt. Wall Street was such a strong film that captured the feel of the 80′s and with Wall Street 2, Oliver Stone was trying to capture today’s feel, and we don’t think people really want to go to the theater just to see how bad they’re still feeling.

When times are tough, people still want to feel good, and while Wall Street 2 is very accurate, people don’t want an economics lesson. They want to escape. The tracking numbers may have been strong, but sometimes whoever’s doing the tracking numbers and putting them out seems like they’ve got their head up their nethers.

Now with Legends Of The Guardian: The Owls of Ga’Hoole, the title should pretty much sum up why it didn’t either track well or just eeked by into 2nd place. Expect quite the fall for both these top 2 film next weekend. There was so much going against this film right off the bat. Best movies ever along with many, weren’t familiar with the book this film is based on, most of the voice actors weren’t familiar to American audiences and lastly, Zack Snyder is now making family films, but this wasn’t exactly the right family film for most kids to watch. This was more a less bloody version of 300 and Watchmen.

Best movies ever loved The Town, even the 2nd time we saw it, Ben Affleck’s movie is going to be around the top 10 for some time. Especially once awards season kicks in even moreso. The Town is already being praised to the heavens and serious Oscar bait so we’ve truly gotten to watch Affleck grow into a man and a very fine director.

Easy A is another best movies ever favorite and it coming in 4th place is no suprise, and this one will hang in for another few weeks in the top 10. The Town will last longer, but this one has got a long life on dvd/blu-ray and repeat watching on cable.

5. You Again (Disney) NEW [2,548 Runs]
Friday $2.7M, Saturday $3.5M, Weekend $8.3M

Even Betty White couldn’t save this mess of a movie. You again had a killer killer cast with Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Bell, Betty White, but as we keep seeing over and over, you need a good movie and word of mouth spreads faster than ever in today’s world.

6. Devil (Universal) Week 2 [2,811 Runs]
Friday $2.1M, Saturday $2.8M, Weekend $6.5M (-47%), Cume $21.7M

What a bad week NBC/Universal has had and getting in bed again with Shyamalan was just another deal with the devil it seems.
