‘The Voice’ Christine Aguilera’s Tony Lucca Smackdown Backfires

Christine Aguilera raised some eyebrows on ‘The Voice‘ this week when she tore into fellow Mouseketeer Tony Lucca, but if she was hoping to use that to get him off the show, it backfired, our sources over at NBC say.

Judges on ‘The Voice’ are there to judge, but Christina Aguilera took it a little overboard according to even her diehard fans when she tore into singer and fellow Mouseketeer Tony Lucca this week. She’s known for being somewhat prickly, but she couldn’t even look him in the eye when she slammed his performance calling him one dimensional while his wife and family got to look on. Most judges on the show are competitive for their own team, and the songstress seems to have quite the rivalry with mentor Adam Levine, but even he was taken aback by her vitriol. This was the first time she’s been this harsh and many think it started with this supportive tweet from Justin Timberlake.

I guess this means that Alicia Keyes can’t tweet any support for friend and backup singer Jermaine Paul or else she’ll have broken Aguilera’s unspoken rule. One of our good sources over at the network felt Aguilera was a little out of line. “Christina is known for being frank, but I think her being so mean to Tony Lucca was purely personal. If she was hoping to get rid of him by being nasty, it completely backfired and garnered him some strong supporters and just adding more to the anti-Aguilera movement that’s been steadily growing.” Many of Aguilera’s hardcore fans felt she had stepped over the line to make a point.

For those that haven’t heard about this, below is the full comment Aguilera made.

“Obviously we go back,” the pop diva said to Tony. “I thought that was a good performance. I just find you to be very one-dimensional, but I would love to see if you make it past this point where you would grow from this stage because I’m just wondering about versatility with you and where you would grow from here. Obviously, we get a lot of support,” she said. “You have me and your old Mouseketeer buddies behind you, and Justin [Timberlake] in particular. But I hope this is really a contest about the voice. I think there are just better voices on the show rather than just a celebrity sway.”

Aguilera didn’t help herself any after Levine commented “That was honest…” when she retorted, “You were honest about Lindsay [Pavao], so I’ll be honest about Tony.”

Another source over at the show said, “Christina’s definitely got some bitterness with Adam since his popularity has soared after being on the show while hers has stayed the same. Let’s face it, she had a rough year, and The Voice brought her career back to life so you’d think she’d appreciate the second chance but she’s not one to appreciate much.”

So it looks like Tony Lucca may have been saved for another week or two. I personally through his performance was okay, not stellar. Most of Adam’s team wasn’t so good compared to Cee Lo Green’s, but Aguilera’s mouth helped keep Lucca from being in the bottom three anyway.

I haven't been a Christina since she became dirrty. I find it pretty hilarious that she said Tony's one-dimensional when all she knows how to do is scream words & sing runs. Hi, pot. I'm kettle. She's just jealous and lame.

I think ppl need to chillax and stop over analysing everything like it's some sort of conspiracy. One thing I love about xtina and Adam is that there both honest reviewers about the acts. Cee lo and Blake rarely say anything that sound like an honest review. Christina was simply reviewing his performance and she is honest. She liked his first two performances for gods sakes but for this one it wasn't stellar... Even Adam was saying he wasn't 100% happy with his teams performs ce that night. And her comment on the celebrity sway thing.. She may appear mean arrogant whatever but she got guts to say it and put it out there what most of the public are thinking.. She reminds me of Simon cowell in a way. She could've said "hey Tony that was a superb performance "but then I bet even then ppl will think she's not being sincere.. thats she's just rooting for him cos they were old friends! So even then ppl would think she's dishonest! I just hope Tony steps up his game next week or pick a better song to prove xtina wrong and thus enable her to give him a comment he'd be proud of! Cos if xtina can't be honest and give you constructive criticism, then who can you trust out of the four coaches to tell you the truth and help You develop as an artist? Can u trust out of the

Christina did not offer any critique of the performance at all. I think she is amazing and I am a huge fan. However she was out of line and her comments were uncalled for. Tony Lucca has many followers on his twitter account. I don't believe Justin meant any harm, he was backing a friend. Probably not the best move but he is not the only celebrity to have done that in the past. It is also a huge contraction on Christina's part when you have clips of Alicia Keys backing another. Alicia is a huge draw in this business. Her opinion can sway his fan base. You complained about JT’s tweet but you don't worry about using a clip of Alicia on the show- really? I would have been happy with a professional critique of Tony’s performance. It was good not great. He is not my favorite but I would like to see what else he can do as we progress. I love Christina but I was very disappointed. She needs to keep professional.

on the contrary, i'm a huge xtina and team xtina fan and tony's my favorite from team adam, BECAUSE of christina and justin,and of course his talent.i'm sure everyone loves tony,especially christina fans. and besides,adam was very mean to lindsey,so her criticizing tony isn't that big of a deal. and i agree with her,if celebs start making their fans vote for someone like justin (and maybe alicia keys) did,the show loses it's point.

I wonder if Christina's critique of Tony Lucca was a tactical move to get him votes. When a judge hates on a contestant the audience respond by quadrupling their votes of that person.

Basically you're right, maybe she did affect some of her fans not to route for him. But she's there to be honest. It's a competition about the voice and there are better voices on the show. No matter how big your fan base is and how much money they have to vote for you, you shouldn't advance or win because of it.

CA was doing her job - which was to critique. sure she could have said it nicer, but I applaud her honesty over say Blake's constant comments on the production over the voice. Her "celebrity sway" comment protects all other contestants from other teams who DON'T get twitter mentions from a celeb. Besides, Tony shouldn't have gone to Twitter with that 1 quote. Man up, you're a contestant, show grace in criticism no matter the source.

Tony's passion really shows in his performances, including this one. Singing is more than belting high notes and being theatrical. I know that for Christina that if there are no theatrics involved she finds everything one-dimensional (unless its her own team). Honestly judges should just comment on the performance and focus on the singers instead. They are so caught up with winning that they just wanna bring down other team members. Adam and Cee Lo are the ones who make sense as a judge.

Sorry but LIndsay , for me, is one of the weakest singers this season. The only one who was weaker than her was Erin Martin and Erin has left.

some of his singing was affected by doing high-fives in the crowd...he had breathy or pitchy parts.
