Rumors are abounding that Tobe Hooper’s latest film ‘Djinn‘ could be plagued with controversy, but after seeing the interminably long trailer, it could use the press.

Horror filmmaking legend Tobe Hooper shot his ‘Djinn‘ last year and it was supposed to premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival last month, but rumors started that a member of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates saw the film and didn’t like its portrayal of Arab culture. It’s been said that the financier was paid to bury the film, etc., and people are saying that trailers are coming off the internet as quickly as their put on. When I did a quick search, there’s plenty of the ‘Djinn‘ trailer on several site for a couple days now.

After watching this long long trailer, this movie could use some good controversial press to get it any notice. There’s barely anything around about it, even while it was filming which usually tells you that the film could have been ready for shelf hell, not for offending but just not being so good.
We saw when horror icon John Carpenter’s ‘The Ward‘ movie had a long road to get to the theater, and after seeing that, it should have just gone straight to dvd, and I won’t be surprised if that happened to ‘Djinn’ since the story not really picking up much heat over here.

It’s unfortunate the Djinn trailer doesn’t have a little more in it to get Western audiences excited about the movie or the concept. Sparkly vampires are overdone and American horror consumers need something fresher. That’s where the Jinn (or Djinn) had a shot. Like Djinn, Jinn the Movie is in post-production. Also, a horror thriller book, The Jinn has just been released. We’ll see if these movies and the book can get horror fans excited about the Jinn, but it looks like a tough sell.
