Best movies ever doesn’t really know much about Tamara Drewe aside from the fact that the poster and all the movie stills the studio sent to us is telling us that they’ll be selling sexy for this film. Pretty men and women to hit the chick flick and gay market aka the Burlesque market.
So as these stills that the studio’s pr department sent us pretty much let us know that there’ll be some nice eye candy along with a story of self-empowerment through self-mutilation. Okay, I know it sounds like Saw 3D early but the premise of Tamara Drewe is about an ugly duckling who leaves her small English town and comes back as a beauty…after having cosmetic surgery. But wait, Tamara is able to use this to help this town which has been turned upside down…and what you ask does she use to help this once bucolic town…why her sex appeal!
Tamara Drewe is based on Posy Simmonds’ graphic novel which has quite a large following and that graphic novel was based loosely upon Thomas Hardy’s classic Far From the Madding Crowd, but we don’t know if Hardy’s classic was based loosely on another novel before him. Just kidding, and we should be taking this film more seriously, but it sounds like it’s going to be a sexier version of Clueless which was loosely based upon Jane Austin’s classic novel Emma. From the synopsis, this little town sounds like East Hampton in the dead of summer, but with more interesting characters.
