Best Movies Ever got to check out the trailer for The Rite Movie with Anthony Hopkins at the 2010 Scream Awards. We still had the bad taste of Eli Roth’s The Last Exorcism, when we learned this was another exorcism film, but it looks promising.

Anthony Hopkins even made an appearance at the 2010 Scream Awards to unveil his lastest film The Rite which opens January 28, 2011. Yeah, Best Movies Ever felt the same when we knew this was yet another exorcism movie. No matter how good a film on this subject is, we will always judge it next to the granddaddy of all exorcism films The Exorcist. The trailer for The Rite looks promising, but we’re wondering why it’s getting dumped into the late January winter month. Normally that doesn’t bode well for films that the studio isn’t feeling so strong about. The film is based on real life events that center on the legitimacy of demonic possession and the Vatican’s attempt to cover it up. We’re a little jaded about ‘based on real life event’ films so we’ll see.

Here’s what The Rite is all about. Inspired by true events, “The Rite” follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Directed by Mikael Hafstroem (“1408″), “The Rite” is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.

Best Movies Ever appreciated Anthony Hopkins simple comment about faith and belief. “The interesting thing about skeptics is that they’re always searching for proof. Question is, what on earth would we do if we found it?” More often than not, people will find any reason to not accept things they either can’t explain or just aren’t comfortable with.

So, unless the studio switches dates, The Rite will be hitting theaters January 28, 2010.
