Even though ‘The Wolf Man‘ pretty much sucked, Anthony Hopkins is in another horror film dealing with the overused exorcism storyline, but his is supposed to be based on a true story.

Exorcism movies keep coming at us a dime a dozen like Eli Roth’s ‘The Last Exorcim‘, and hoping to cash in on this overused storyline, ‘The Rite‘ hits theaters January 28, 2011 from Warner Bros. Yeah, in January when the movie studios dump their crap on a snowed in public. It’s their little ‘Island Of Misfit Toys’ time.

‘The Rite’, based on a ‘true story’, is about a skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds and Toby Jones co-star. These ‘true story’ concepts suck since films that are actually based fully on an actual true story hard to believe from a public duped to many time by studios jumping on the bandwagon.

The first trailer really sucked, so Warner Bros has put another one hoping to give us a better incite into this movie. Basically we learn that Anthony Hopkins character may be possessed himself, but do we actually care? I doubt so, and the horrible box office ‘The Rite’ will surely have will only prove our point. Sadly, it will just make the studios think that exorcism movies don’t work anymore rather than say they produced a piece of crap. Our sources at the studio have told us that this film is a big joke to many working there, and the only reason why they can’t stick it straight to dvd is that some of the actors in the film would be very angry. “If it wasn’t for that, they’d be more than happy to stick this on dvd and call it a day,” our source high up in the company said.

‘The Rite’ has a cool cast, but as in this weekend’s big bomb ‘The Tourist‘, a great cast doesn’t always make the movie.
