After using every dehumidifier known to man, I learned from Wave Home Solutions that they can be pretty pricey, and not only that, they don't really help with air quality issues. This was a big shocker to me, especially since my first apartment I ever lived in got me sick because of the mold I didn't know about.
Many of us have just bought a dehumidifier that was either cheap so we could have one thinking it would do the job. We all have that thought one time or another…you buy the product since they're all the same and do the same job. I learned this lesson the hard way in our main office at Best Movies Ever. We live in an area where there's plenty of moisture which can be a breeding ground for mold, so our offices had several dehumidifiers thinking that would take of it. It wasn't until our own George Cando showed me that one of the systems inside had actually gotten some mold. What happened was one of our interns had forgotten to empty out the water so it was defeating the purpose. Honest mistake, but at least it turned out to be a blessing in disguise since I learned that the system we had wasn't doing much for the air we were breathing. That's what most of us do anything, buy the dehumidifier without questioning if it could be better. Plus you have the expense of those filters to change and our electric bill always shot up when we had them cranking out.
Our health guy here Kyle Chandler did some research and his results were what shocked me the most. Everything I had thought we were doing right wasn't so. That's when he showed me all the stats and introduced me to the Wave Home Solutions which incorporates everything into just one system that takes care of an entire house or, as in our case, the whole office. Kyle had said that it would save money on electricity, but I figured we'd test it out and see if it could actually live up to what was being promised.
Right off the bat, one month in, our electric bill plummeted. Wave Home Solutions claims that it only costs about $3 per month in electricity, and I can vouch for that! What an amazing savings to go from $98 to $3 for keeping the air quality much better and moisture under control. But even better, the system will expel harmful pollutants and create a whole-house air exchange. Most dehumidifiers just recirculate the air like being in an airplane, but this one takes that extra step which is so great, especially during allergy and sinus time! This also will save you in the long run since many times homes that have basements can wind up having repairs for moisture damage or mold infestation. The mold is just horrible since once you are breathing it in for some time, your health will get affected.
That's where I realized that taking some of these systems at face value wasn't the smartest route since other people can get affected. I don't want my writers and researchers getting sick so this is like a major investment in the business, and for anyone who has a family, it's a major investment (without the high cost) for their future good health. The system is also maintenance free which many of us love.
So here's the rundown on exactly what the Wave Home Solutions system does. WAVE ventilation solves the century old problem of excess moisture by utilizing controlled and targeted ventilation as opposed to a conventional dehumidifier which removes moisture particles from the air by condensation and then re circulates the same stale air back into the room. WAVE ventilation focuses in on the major source of moisture problems which is the lowest point in a house where there is the most moisture infiltration, stagnation and condensation; namely the basement and crawl space. The unit entirely expels the cool damp air out of the house and uses the warmer and fresher upstairs air to effectively lower relative humidity and dry out the structure. It creates an air exchange in the entire house that will reduce moisture related problems such as excess humidity, a musty basement , mildew, and alleviate conditions that aggravate asthma and allergies.
And one big question I had that I know many of you was how this works in both the summer and winter months. Well here's your answer in their own words. In the summer, when there is no air conditioning in the upper levels, the warmer air flows downstairs raising the temperature, which lowers the relative humidity and raises the dew point resulting in less condensation. When there is air conditioning upstairs, the natural dehumidifying properties of the conditioned air comes down and lowers the relative humidity. The downstairs is drier, warmer and without any basement odor .
In the winter heating season, water will condense on windows and walls because the moisture inside hits a cold surface. After the WAVE ventilation is operational, the moisture upstairs, flows downwards and the windows dry up. The unit raises the temperature downstairs and draws out saturated moisture in the structure. The drier air is easier to heat than the heavy moist air, thereby saving money in heating bills. Also, heat loss is minimal because cold air is always at the floor level. In the winter the unit will generally operate at a lower speed due to the fact that heat evaporates indoor moisture.
So, if your worried about the air quality in your home (and after learning that the EPA tested and found that many times the air quality inside of a home is 5% worse than outside) this is so worth checking out. I'm just glad I found out about Wave Home Solutions before any damage could have happened to our office or the health of any of our employees. I know our health insurance company is loving us for this!
