‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ has always been that perfect show to get hooked on, but unlike many shows that show some age in their fourth season, this one just keeps getting better. RuPaul Charles knows what we want, and he keeps delivering it better each season.

Logo owes a lot to RuPaul Charles and World Of Wonder for putting the cabler on the map with ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race‘. This show finally convinced the network to stop trying shows like ‘Sordid Lives’ and give us something fun. ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race‘ literally became an overnight sensation with people of all walks; I’d hear my straight friends talking about it as much as gay ones. Everyone here at Best Movies Ever keeps hoping Exec Producers Fenton Baily and Randy Barbato will start sending out episode screeners like all of the other shows we review. That’s how addictive this show still is after four seasons which just keep getting better. Last year was a standout with Raja, who literally showed the new frontier for dragdom. Naturally, many of the other queens felt she didn’t fit in, but she still won which made many people cheer since Raja stood out on the runway, but backstage, she still felt like that odd little kid who got picked on in high school.

We’ve already found our new Raja (and in a rarity, everyone here at Best Movies Ever is in agreement) in the form of Sharon Needles, who just is a true drag artist. She doesn’t take herself to seriously either as Needles describes herself as “Beautiful, spooky, and stupid.” How can you not love someone like that? Our runner-up favorite is Chad Michaels just for being the voice of reason in the whirlwind of self induced drama. He’s a Cher impersonator that Cher adores with good reason.

For Season 4, RuPaul has umped the prize money to $100K which only shows how this show has grown everywhere. When RuPaul’s Drag Race started, it felt like they’d just rented out a room with paper thin walls for the runway portion, but now it looks more like a show on Bravo. In the first five minutes of the show, they brought back the queen that everyone just hates Shangela, making us think she was back on for another season. I even said ‘what the hell does Ru see in her’, but thankfully she was quickly devoured by some zombie drag queens…yes, that was the first big challenge. Not to eat her, although I’m sure the girl wouldn’t have minded, but creating an outfit for the RuPocalypse
The show opened with the usual queens coming in one at a time to introduce us to them, and we get Willam, who loves to talk about being on Criminal Minds (‘it was a three episode story arc’) and when one of the new arrivals mentions that she looks familiar, the response is ‘do you watch tv?’ They always have that one who just rankles everyone by making sure everyone knows that they’ve got an established career and being on ‘Drag Race’ is just a little slummin’ fun for them. Then in a quick turnaround, she licks her workstation as a way of marking her turf. Guess she learned that on that spot for ‘Sex and the City‘. She was in that too.
They have the mix of what we’ve come to expect from the show, plus the continued legacy of Puerto Rican queens Madame LaQueer and Kenya Michaels who always seem to have that same style of pageantry. It looks nice, but we like our drag with some edge.

Enter Sharon Needles, who smartly comes in looking a hot mess, and naturally, the girls all pounce on that, but the minute it’s time for the runway, they are all silenced. As you can see, she’s in a whole other league. Below, you can see the runway looks of the other girls for comparison. Needles will be the one to watch, and in ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: Untucked‘ (another pleasure to watch), the girls know who they’ve got to beat.
The first episode had our favorite judges back with Michelle Visage and Santino Rice along with guester Elvira, who was the perfect pick for Sharon Needles. I don’t know how that woman (Elvira) looks exactly the same as when I was a kid. This season will have a huge roster of great guest judges, and I know it’ll be a great watch again. This is the only reality show I can say has never let me know in entertainment value. RuPaul and the drag queens know it’s reality, and they know how to both work and play for the camera. If you’ve never seen this show, you won’t be disappointed, even if you think you hate drag queens. After this, you’ll love them!
