The remake of the classic Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell and Charlie Sheen starrer Red Dawn was completed in 2009 and will finally hit screens this November. The film cast a then very unknown Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, but Thor and The Hunger Games should help this film out some.

Joss Whedon may have know who Chris Hemsworth was back in 2009 for his Cabin In the Woods movie which also got saved when Thor turned into a mega box office success, but the Red Dawn remake has it double time with Josh Hutcherson taking off from The Hunger Games. Whedon knew who Hemsworth was, but no one else in the world was aware of how his career would take off. The film was completed in 2009, but like the Hollywood Shelf Hell, sometimes it takes an unknown actor to take off and the film is rescued. Hemsworth easily help do that with Whedon’s long in the vault Cabin In the Woods, and Red Dawn has even changed the origin of the villains from Chinese to North Korean.

Things have changed globally in the past few years, and Hutcherson said it best to USA Today, “Originally it was the Chinese,” says Hutcherson. “And then there was the thought that the Chinese own most of the companies making movies and that maybe it wasn’t the best idea in the world.” The filmmakers did some re-editing and digital alterations to make the do over work.

The first trailer for the film finally hits tomorrow, and you’ll be able to check it out and compare with the original which is below along with some clips from the on location shoots.
