Oz The Great And Powerful (2013) Movie Synopsis

When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

That's stupid. >:I No one will like it if they realize it's a complete knock off of another movie.

have no clue. movies nowadays arent original anymore they just copy other movies that did well in the box office. its all about the money and no more on creativity and originality

But why? Why do they need to copy the performance? That shows a little less creativity, I wish they would just make it different. :(

According to an article published by Moviefone, Disney hopes Oz: The Great and Powerful will replicate the commercial performance of a similar 3-D CGI fantasy film; Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

You can't compare this story to Wicked. It was written in 1995, so yes, it came first. But people have been trying to write prequels to The Wizard of Oz for years, McGuire just got it published first. Disney tried to buy the film rights for Wicked, but Universal got their hands on it because they own rights to the musical. The novel Wicked will probably always be the origin story nearest and dearest to my heart, but The Wizard of Oz is my favorite movie, so I'm going to see this.

That hand at the end is James Franco`s hand from his movie 127 Hours. :)

It's exactly like (the newer) Alice and Wonderland. Main character ends up taking an unexpected trip to a magical land. People at this land were expecting the main character all along and are placing it on them to save the magical land which is being ruled by some evil person. Even though the person has generally no powers at all and has no clue how the heck they are supposed to save this land, and they just want to go home.

This is incredibly inaccurate. That cant be the wicked witch of the west's hand because, Anyone who has ever read Gregory McGuire's novel Wicked, which was based on what happened before Dorothy came, knows that the Wizard is the witch's father.

They should write "From the Director of the Evil Dead Trilogy".

No matter how much I love James Franco and no matter how excited I am for tis movie I will never stop wishing that he had never changed his style in acting and in choosing good projects. I mean it is his career he deals with it but I miss his old movies. When I look at his upcoming projects like Spring Breakers or Cherry i don't see the old Franco and that breaks my heart. I wish I could see him in a movie like 127 hours or Pineapple express or Tristan&Isolde again.
