Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful definitely looks beautiful, and here’s a slew of new images below that just make you want to go and visit the mystical land with James Franco.

The Wizard Of Oz might have flopped way back in the middle of last century, but it’s turned into a money making machine now with Wicked’s long run on Broadway and now Sam Raimi brings Oz the Great and Powerful so we can see things from the Wizard’s perspective. We’ve seen Dorothy’s and the Witch’s, now it’s his turn. James Franco looks to fill the bill easily, and I’m sure with more trailers and clips coming up, we’ll see more character development. Right now, it just really really pretty and you can tell Sam Raimi is having a lot of fun with his production designer Robert Stromberg (Alice in Wonderland).

[callout title=Oz the Great and Powerful]When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

My god, what a load of crap. The original is boring, but this just looks like Tim Burtons "Alice in Wonderland" all over again.

@longlivehellokitty are you freaking kidding me? You are honestly asking why Disney should stop making sequels to classics? You are probably the same class of idiot who thought the term YOLO was cool.

This movie isn't based on the original movie, it is based on the original book. That's why it doesn't bother to explain why Dorothy couldn't have been dreaming, the book Dorothy was not dreaming.
