2012 US Tennis Open: Novak Djokovic Shows Why Fans Love Him

Novak Djokovic is winning over the Roger Federer loving crowd at the 2012 US Tennis Open one person or even kid at a time as he showed in the video below. Some are already saying this was a set up, but we’ll let you all decide for yourselves.

It took a while for the 2012 US Tennis Open crowds to warm up to Novak Djokovic, but with videos like this going out, people are bound to like the tennis powerhouse even more. When he defeated favorite Roger Federer last year people gave the man his due. I know many tennis fans who were very upset, but over the past year, it seems the Serbian player has grown on more and more people.

At a practise set earlier today, a young fan called out his name as normal but then followed it up with a marriage proposal in a young boy’s voice. This got Djokovic’s attention and he walked over and helped the young boy over and onto the court for some play time. He handed the boy his balls and had him going at it for some fun. This definitely made the boy’s day or even year and after he was through hitting those balls, he got a big hug from the tennis star.

Already people are suggesting this was a staged event, but frankly, that’s a very odd one to stage. How often would an athlete get a young boy to propose to him. No matter what in sports, it’s still a sticky subject in many respects, but Djokovic just having fun with it really earned him some major respect. Even Federer has mentioned that he’s not sure if he’s actually the fan favorite anymore since Djokovic has seen his popularity over here grown in leaps and bounds. He’s definitely one of the most outwardly entertaining and easy-going players in the game.
