James Cullen Bressack’s ‘My Pure Joy‘ is taking a cue from ‘The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence‘ and hitting dvd shelves this Valentine’s Day for those of us who like to express our love in different ways. The trailer below definitely shows that this young director has got some real promise in horror.

While many indie filmmakers bitch and moan about not getting funding to make their first film, Director James Cullen Bressack did it the old fashioned way and just made one. As you can see in the trailer before for ‘My Pure Joy‘, about a teen who’s watched so many horror films, he can’t distinguish between reality and imagination, this is pure indie horror with some major promise. The promise is that Bressack could definitely more on to really make a name for himself in the genre if he doesn’t get sucked up the machinery and start putting out mainstream crap horror. Yeah, the trailer looks indie, but look a little closer to the attention to detail. The shot of a reflection in blood was pretty sweet and not something you normally see in low low budget films.

I’ve not seen the film yet, but I’m sure it’ll be decent, not great, but just from the trailer I can definitely see some real promise in this director who smartly opted out of film school after three weeks. Sometimes the just do it approach to filmmaking can be more rewarding then having someone tell you how to do it. So keep your eye out for this one that comes out on dvd February 14, 2012. Hey, it’s better than pining over that ex who’s moved on with their life!
