Being up against Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has gotten Mark Wahlberg back into the shape from his ‘Marky Mark‘ days, and he’s more than willing to show off his ‘Pain and Gain‘ abs now. Check out his latest on set pics from the Michael Bay dark comedy. Yeah, it’s still weird to have the name Michael Bay associated with a comedy and a low budget (for him at least) one at that!
It’s been a while since Mark Wahlberg’s been in a film that’s gotten so many early movie set images like Michael Bay’s ‘Pain and Gain‘, but anyone who’s seen them can understand why they’re getting all the attention. Only Steven Soderberg’s ‘Magic Mike‘ film has drawn this much attention to early pics. This one’s based on a true story in the vein of ‘Fargo’ in the world of bodybuilding. When you see images of Wahlberg up against Dwayne Johnson, you can understand his rush to pump the iron and anything that can bulk him up…but anyone would like tiny next to that behemoth of a man.
‘Pain and Gain’ is described as ‘Pulp Fiction‘ meets ‘Fargo‘ and also stars Rob Corddry as a fellow bodybuilder. Unlike Bill Macy’s car salesman in ‘Fargo’, this one centers around bodybuilders who conspire to kidnap and extort a wealthy Miami businessman (Tony Shaloub), only to find the situation spinning out of their control. I doubt if there’ll be a wood chipper scene, but with Bay, he’ll come up with something comparable, plus I’m curious to see how he handles this kind of film genre, plus it’s a real life story.
