Last week we were all shocked that Sahara Davenport, RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant and boyfriend of one of our favorite queens Manila Luzon suddenly died from heart failure. Boyfriend Karl Westerberg aka Luzon shared some sweet memories of their six years together.

Antoine Ashley aka Sahara Davenport made quite the impression on Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, and his mother Angela Ashley Reddish, announced shortly after his shocking sudden death, that her son died from heart failure at the age of 28.
“I thank God for giving me an angel Antoine Ashley to share with the rest of the world,” said Reddish. “My family and I would like to thank everyone for their condolences and support. We know that our angel is now dancing in heaven.”
His boyfriend Karl Westerberg aka Manila Luzon on Season 3 of Drag Race spoke about their six years together and keeping his legacy alive.
“I’m left cherishing his memories and carrying out his legacy,” Luzon told People. “I was lucky enough to have time with him. I’m hanging in there, but it’s hard because I have to deal with more than just grieving someone so close. I have to deal with telling everyone all the information. We’ve been together for such a long time, so it’s surreal because it just happened. At least I have a lot of support from friends and family, so that’s good.”
Luzon will be seen in the upcoming RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Edition, but I wonder how tough it would be to watch that even though it’s already been filmed. As he put it:
“All the stuff that’s going to be said will be said as if Sahara was still with us. It’s going to be a little hard to watch, but it’s kind of cool. Antoine lived to entertain the world as Sahara Davenport and the world was in awe over his extreme talent. But his heart is what made us all fall in love with him. To me he will always be my best friend, my hero, my diva and I have always considered myself more than lucky to have him be forever a part of my life. Thank you, hon, for bringing so much beauty to all of us. Your legacy lives on in me and all of us you’ve touched.”
Logo will re-air a tribute to Sahara Davenport on Friday with an all-day marathon of his season, which will also include Tweets from fans. The first episode of RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race, will premiere on October 22, and fittingly will be dedicated to the performer. It’s rare that all of us here at Best Movies Ever can agree on one thing, but Manila Luzon was one of our favorite Queens, and our hearts go out to you during this time. You’re strong, we know, but it’s always nice to know there’s so much love out there for you.
