‘Love and Other Drugs’ Movie Review
Indie Genius Best Movies Ever
Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway look very pretty in ‘Love And Other Drugs‘, but the Edward Zwick film feels like a half baked date movie. So far the best chemistry Gyllenhaal’s had onscreen is with Heath Ledger.

‘Love And Other Drugs’ starts out at a frenetic pace which just feels off putting until director Edward Zwick finally settles it down so we can get to know something about what’s going on. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are very cute together and spent a bulk of the film getting undressed or naked, but the chemistry is pretty much absent for these two. It feels more like Anne Hathaway is the ‘fag hag’ who tries to convince her hot gay friend that he could switch teams if he just tried it once.
Here’s what Love And Other Drugs is about. Maggie (Hathaway) is an alluring free spirit who won’t let anyone – or anything – tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales. Maggie and Jamie’s evolving relationship takes them both by surprise, as they find themselves under the influence of the ultimate drug: love. Based on Jamie Reidy’s memoir “Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman.”
Zwick allows Gyllenhaal come over as the good guy who feels like he’s a bad guy. The film focuses on the 90′s which is a far cry from where we are today, but goes into a little history of the ‘little blue pill’. It feels like there must have been a rush to get the film made and a few more drafts on the script could’ve done this movie much good. The plot of the film to get a romcom going is that Viagra serves as the platform for the romance between Jamie and Maggie (Hathaway), a sexy early-onset Parkinson’s patient with whom he embarks on a torrid affair. Neither is looking for a relationship — that’s just not how he rolls, and she’s reluctant to involve anyone in what lies ahead for her. Yin to his yang, Maggie is a free-spirited fine artist who lives in a spacious, quirky loft on her coffee-shop salary. This could work for most romantic comedies, but it feels just a tad bit forced. The two fine actors do what they can with the role, and it feels like the studio is pushing the nakedness of the two to get people into the theaters and ignore the critics reviews.

Here’s yet another of the photos claiming to be a still from the film (above) are being pushed to sell the film. Hey it worked to get females into the theater to see Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Jarhead‘.
