Kim Dotcom’s case appears to be unraveling further as New Zealand Prime Minister John Key apologized to the Megaupload founder after a report placed blame on him for illegally bugging him. The US delayed his extradition hearing and the New Zealand High Court is demanding more evidence before handing him over.

The US has pushed off his extradition hearing, and now Kim Dotcom continues growing more support, especially now that New Zealand Prime Minister John Key has publicly apologized for spying on the controversial Megaupload founder. Naturally it took a report to be released that showed showed New Zealand’s Government Communications Security Bureau spied on Dotcom for this to occur, but with this happening, it only makes the case against the larger than life man appear to be unraveling rather quickly.
Dotcom has taken to Twitter to defend himself, and it appears social media is helping him to fight charges that he committed massive copyright infringement, racketeering and money laundering alleged to have caused more than $500 million in damages. Last January, Megaupload was forced to shut down and its founders mansion was raided.
Right now the US is waiting to see if he’ll be handed over to them before any type of trial can occur. In recent months, the New Zealand High Court declared the raid of Dotcom’s mansion and property confiscated as illegal and now a judge is ordering the United States Government to hand over more evidence. His frozen assets have been thawed somewhat giving the Megaupload founder access to some of his money. Now, there’s an inquiry into why New Zealand spied on one of its own citizens which led to Key’s public apology.
This thing could wind up leaving some bruises on the people involved with this case as mistakes like these are brought to light. This has caused quite the political uproar in New Zealand, and continues rallying more public interest in this case. Dotcom responded with this:
@johnkeypm, I accept your apology. Show your sincerity by supporting a full, transparent & independent inquiry into the entire Mega case.

Numerous unlawful acts against us by the NZ gov have been exposed. It’s time for a full, transparent & independent inquiry.

The next hearing scheduled for Dotcom’s extradition to the United States is in March 2013, and for now, it’s up to the New Zealand judge to determine if enough evidence supports him being brought here for trial. In the meantime, several more Torrent sharing sites have closed down including the popular Demonoid. Also word has been that Megaupload is gearing up for a relaunch with Megabox.
