‘Justice League’ Continues Holding Pattern

ben affleck not directing justice league movie

I was surprised when the Ben Affleck directing the Justice League movie rumor kept swirling around since everyone knew he had already turned it down, but like the rumor that Michael Phelps will lose his 2012 Olympics medals rumor going, it’s simply not true. Warner Bros doesn’t even have Zack Snyder on their short list.

With The Avengers doing crazy box office this summer, Warner Bros naturally dusted off it’s chestnut Justice League and the rumors on who would direct began swirling. They knew there was no chance for Christopher Nolan to return to this world so like any studio, they just start floating names of directors they like who’ve had some success. The studio likes Affleck, but the Gone Baby Gone & The Town director definitely likes more dramatic material, and when the rumor hit, I didn’t even write anything since it was pretty obvious that I’d already been told back in June that he wouldn’t be doing or even considering it.

Last week Affleck finally officially said that that he’s not doing it and that it was all just a rumor. So that should put an end to that one. I’m curious to see how development continues on The Stand for him though. That’s a whopper of a film, and I think will draw much more interest than if he’d done a superhero film.

Interestingly, Zack Snyder’s name hasn’t surfaced very much at Warner Bros. even though he’s directing Man Of Steel, but if that film doesn’t land very well, don’t expect a Justice League movie for a very long long time. It wouldn’t have been until 2015 anyway, but if one of their other big names in the franchise can’t get a hit movie it’s a hard sell. Marvel did it smart with building up to The Avengers, but most studios don’t have that patience as they want fast profits now.

You can best there’ll be names here and there rumored to be on the project that wants to combine Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman in one film, but since the Green Lantern didn’t land and Wonder Woman just doesn’t get much Hollywood respect in film or tv it’s a tough road for the film. Wonder Woman will get a cameo in Man Of Steel, but unless that film does some Iron Man type of box office, it’ll be another wish project to collect dust again until The Avengers 2 comes out to remind them.

How is he not doing "Man of Steel" but co-writing it? Read back your comment to yourself. He co-wrote it.

Nolan isn't doing "Man of Steel" dick face, Zack Snyder is. He's a co-writer

Affleck would be just as good as the concept of a Justice League film. Which is a terrible idea through and through. Nolan has given Batman an excellent image, with conceivable ideas in a Gotham you could believe exists. Yet, throwing ridiculous characters like Superman, Green Lantern and the Flash into this and it would become far fetched. The same effect can be achieved by letting Clooney don the cape again. We don't need a Justice League film. Especially one with Ben Affleck as director.

Fuck yourself. This movie is impossible anyway. But James Cameron hasn't made a good movie since t2. He'd probably have some gay gimmick like smell-o vision or maybe it will be the first movie that can give you a blow job. If you want a "good" movie it will have to be character driven and relying on special effects and name recognition will ultimately destroy this and cost DC and WB a lot of money.

Affleck is a perfect pick for directing a JLA film. Shame that it seems he won't do it.
