The ‘John Carter‘ movie marketing blitz has been going for a while, but then the weak tracking numbers came out to Disney’s dismay so we’re being inundated even harder. It’s starting to feel like how hard they pushed ‘Tron‘ so right now, no talk of sequel for Taylor Kitsch.

Remember how Disney’s marketing with ‘Tron‘ made it feel like it was being forced down our throat and then it came out. The tracking numbers for ‘John Carter‘ hit this week and many rival studios are jumping with glee it seems that the over $240 million 3D film could turn out to be a big bust for the Mouse House. At one point they were trying to discount rumors of a budget out of control, but even that has stopped now which signals problems.

Granted, ‘John Carter‘ doesn’t open until March 9, but with all the marketing campaigns that have been running for months now, it’s not looking good if awareness isn’t strong. Heck, it’s not even close to strong. Disney told Deadline that they’re unleashing all their marketing muscle this Sunday so expect the onslaught. This one seems like it’s for a very specific (read small) fanbase, and throwing tens of millions more advertising dollars is only going to make the ad agencies happy. It looks fun but only blu-ray on the home theater fun. So below is a big ole gallery of hi-res images and more clips. There’ll be more to come this weekend of course. Disney already promised it!

Some of these images are on set and behind the scenes which look good. If this one fails, you can be sure Disney will either be blaming online piracy or Dick Cook who had this set up before leaving the Mouse Trap.

Ruby again, I just checked that link on your comment and that movieline article actually agrees with what this post says. It's been pretty common knowledge about the budget issues the film had...and that happens on many that are of this size. I personally hope it does fine and turns out to be good. I kinda got the impression that the post wasn't rooting against the film but just reporting. at least there'll be plenty of good ones coming up though

I am looking forward to the movie, I grew up reading as much science fiction as I could, I thoroughly enjoyed all the E.R.B Mars books, I hope the movie is as good as I hope. I think that the article is correct in that this genre of science fiction may only appear to a select audience. I do hope it is well received, I would like to see the entire series made into movies, but the bar must be set high to enjoy success like the Harry Potter series.

Except that they are talking sequels, already outlining them, and Andrew Stanton today said that the out of control budget rumors were just that and that Disney was VERY pleased that he stayed within the allotted budget. http://www.movieline.com/2012/02/17/a-complete-and-utter-lie-the-fact-fiction-and-fury-behind-john-carters-woes/ A little fact-checking goes a long way. I'm looking forward to this movie, and there's been so much egregious misinformation spread about it almost since it was greenlit that I'm starting to wonder if it's not rival studios planting false crap in the media constantly. There's just no other explanation for how absolutely gleeful people seem to be about a movie possibly not doing well, even before a single trailer hit the Internet.

@Darkeflare FYI edgar rice burroughs wrote the original novel that this move is based on. He is the same author who created Tarzan . I say star wars and others "borrowed from Mr Burroughs. Long passed away .Top of my head . John Carter was written around 1934 That was creativity . I read these when I was a kid. Waited along time till some one and technology caught up with this story and put it out their. Disney though ? The images are true to the book .Hope the acting is.

This certainly looks like an interesting movie. I do have to admit, the story-line looks like one that has already been used many times by Disney (and others), but I dunno, it could be different. They don't give away too terribly much about what exactly is going on. It definitely has a unique world, though the overall feel of it reminds me of other movies. Could just be me, though. ;) I'll probably see this one in theaters, even if it turns out to be rubbish; the special effects should be neat.

Well, it looks cool. And from what I understand it's supposed to be based off an old book. It'll be interesting to see if this film can be good. So far this trailer points in the right direction.

@Ralokone A-p-p-l-e-j-u-i-c-e. I used to run a soup kitchen, from my pants. I'll give you some soup and woo you later. Err, well pilgrim, you can eat the peanuts out my...oh never mind you wouldn't get it anyway. You can tell neither of us has a job. We spend too much time on YT. Besides, it's just a movie. By the way, the humans look like pirates and the aliens look like Jar-Jar Binks from Star Wars Episode One.

To anyone comparing John Carter to Star Wars or Avatar, John Carter has been around since 1912. This John Carter movie comes out during the 100th year John Carter has been in existence. John Carter has appeared in many books, such as "John Carter of Mars", "Llana of Gathol", "Warlord of Mars", etc. John Carter has also had several comic book series, some of them published by the likes of Marvel comics and Dark Horse comics. John Carter has been around in various publications for a century now.

@anurek123 That doesnt change the fact that it is getting universally positive reviews from people who have seen it.

@stoneman127 Pirates of the caribbean? why because the actors are human and have legs? or just because it is also a disney movie and you think you are being clever and insightful. This film is based on a 100 year old book and it has nothing to do with avatar.
