‘G.I. Joe Retaliation‘ is hitting hard with all the character posters and international posters and now the freshly released new trailer that has some Channing Tatum in it looking like those death rumors will prove true after all.
Jon Chu is making sure that we all forget the mess that was ‘G.I. Joe‘ from Stephen Sommers, and this latest trailer definitely is already making it so. Many snickered when the ‘Step Up‘ guy was brought in direct an actioner like this, but sometimes when someone wants to prove everyone wrong, they can exceed expectations as it’s looking in this case. Channing Tatum has been noticeably absent (aside from doing interviews during his three films released already this year) from the bulk of the marketing, but he pops in the trailer early on and then is gone. This would lead many to believe that he’ll be killed off in the early firefight that is the basis for the movie where Dwayne Johnson is front and center. For some reason, the trailer feels like it slows a little when Bruce Willis enters. London being blown up in a seismic looking boom, snow chunks falling from the top of a mountain and those cool Ninja outfits just make this look like some fun popcorn escape time.
Many of you may feel like I did, in that it feels a little ‘X-Men’ with the plot, but that’s not such a bad thing for some fun summer watching.
