Mark Wahlberg always uses his current movies (Contraband) to push his upcoming projects, and among them is a movie version of ‘Cocaine Cowboys‘ which Jennifer Lopez eyeing for a summer/fall 2012 shoot.
‘Cocaine Cowboys‘ has been a movie just waiting to be made and Mark Wahlberg has been wanting to get this going for some time. He’s pushing it in the press along with his ‘Entourage’ movie, but surprised everyone when he said that Jennifer Lopez is just hounding him for a role in the film. The only role that would suit a personality like hers would be the big one of Grisela Blanco, a prominent crime family matriarch integral to the Miami scene. If you’ve seen the killer documentary, you could see how Lopez knows that it’s the kind of role that could bring her movie stardom back.
“It’s one of those characters that will go down in history. Jennifer Lopez is chasing that [role] like crazy,” Wahlberg revealed. “It’s the role — if I could play Griselda, I would. That’s Academy Award [bait] right there.” It definitely is like a Scarface type role and if the script is halfway decent, it could be a great role for Lopez to remind everyone that she can act.
Wahlberg went on to say, “We’re waiting on the script. It’s going to be sooner rather than later. We’re going to shoot that in Miami, hopefully in the summer or the fall.”
Way back last decade Leonardo DiCaprio and director Peter Berg were attached to do the movie, but then that cooled off and Wahlberg took over in 2008 and David O. Russell claimed he’d be directing it. Well we all know that Wahlberg and Russell aren’t so friendly after ‘The Fighter’ so maybe Berg will come back onboard. This is the kind of film that would be great for him.
Wahlberg said the plan is to start shooting ‘Cocaine Cowboy’s’ by this summer or fall.
