Jacob Hopkins (Alexander Drew) hasn’t watched ‘True Blood‘ as most parents wouldn’t let their ten-year old child watch the uber-violent and ultra sexy vampire show, but he’s one of the newest and youngest characters to join the show as part of Season Five’s Vampire Authority.  He’s also the youngest person we’ve interviewed on Best Movies Ever too!

Jacob Hopkins might be too young to watch Alan Ball’s ‘True Blood’, but he still wound up being cast as the youngest character ever on the show (besides the infant that was thought to be cursed, but we don’t count that!). He’ll be playing Alexander Drew, a vampire who was turned at the age of nine who is part of the Vampire Authority and has a penchant for taunting the big boys. He’s even gotten so into his character that one day when one of the mayke up people called out the name ‘Alex’ both he and Alexander Skarsgard (Eric) answered. As everyone who’s ever met Skarsgard knows, he’s always funny so he just referred to Hopkins as ‘the other Alex‘ while quickly pointing out how well he’s doing in his role as Alexandar Drew.

Hopkins has Christopher Meloni’s Roman as his guardian, so while his character loves tormenting the other vampires and humans, he keeps it in line with that one. He easily fit in with everyone on the set and answered our questions as candid as a ten-year old can be. I think some adults could learn a thing about being more funny and candid in interviews as Mr. Hopkins.

BEST MOVIES EVER: Did you want to be an actor like your father or did it just happen?

JACOB HOPKINS: It just happened. I was with my Dad one day when he stopped by his agent’s office, and one of the kids agents said to my Dad, “Who is this and does he want to act?” I said, sure – I was only 5 at the time. I was curious about what acting was and started taking classes. Very quickly, I booked a Kmart commercial opposite Jaclyn Smith for Mother’s Day. I really had fun, and I’ve been doing it ever since.

BME: What’s been your favorite part of acting?

JH: I love making new friends. I get to meet so many different people. I like playing different characters who aren’t really me.

BME: Did you watch True Blood before you got the role of Alexander Drew?

JH: No, of course not! Not in human years, but if I was really a vampire I would love too!

BME: What was the audition like for True Blood, and what did you do to prepare for it?

JH: I remember there was like six people in the room when I auditioned. I was going in for the producers and Alan Ball was there too. My dad is my acting coach and he really prepared me for it. I went in there being really strong, sarcastic and pretty much full of myself. Like I was more important then any character in the scene or anybody in the room. That’s how I think Alexander thinks.

BME: Are you excited getting to play a vampire who isn’t very nice?

JH: Well, let’s just say I get to boss adults around and get in their faces – I don’t get to do that everyday!

BME: What’s been the weirdest part of playing a vampire?

JH: I think it would be looking pale and white with the makeup. I looked kind of freaky when I looked in the mirror.

BME: You hold a brown belt in Taekwondo, are you going for the next level?

JH: Yes, in less then two months I test for my high brown belt.

BME: Do you parents still make you do chores around the house?

JH: On Saturdays, my brother and I do chores. My Dad gives us each a list and afterwards, we get to pick either a super hero comic book, super hero trading cards or a marvel action figure toy – I love that part!

BME: What do you like to do when you’re not acting?

JH: I like to swim, draw, play video games, read, play handball, spend time with my family, and of course Taekwondo.

BME: Is it hard trying to do well in school along with acting?

JH: Not so much. My school teacher is really good about getting all my work together so I have it on set with my set teacher. I have had really great set teachers and Millie from True Blood is my favorite. Sometimes when I get really busy, I can get tired, but I really like school.

She writes it as she sees it and many have the war wounds to show for it. When I say 'sources' unlike other sites, I mean REAL life sources!

oh, don't be like that. i've got a feeling that since this is alan ball's final season running the show they're planning on this to be the final one. last season was a little all over the place for me, but with the vamp authority and jacob h to shake things up this is looking like a killer bite season.

sometimes it takes a child! hopefully he'll be on for more than one season but kids grow quickly and vamps don't
