Danny Boyle definitely made the 2012 London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony more than memorable as the city could also celebrate the face that it’s the first one to ever host the Games three times. There’s a huge slew of stunning images from the Ceremony that included everyone from Queen Elizabeth II with James Bond to Paul McCartney.

If you were lucky enough to be at the 2012 London Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, you know it was a sight to behold, and seeing Queen Elizabeth II take part in all the fun was a shock to basically everyone. Even though we had already reported that it would be happening, it’s so different to see it happen live in front of you. Many thought Danny Boyle was an odd choice to be in charge of the massive event, but he proved he was more than worthy as he delivered a show that was as stunning and eccentric as I could remember. There were moments when it felt like a Pink Floyd type show, and it truly made this feel like an event to forget all the craziness that’s happened in the past few weeks.

Above and below are quite an abundance of images if you missed the ceremony, or even if you saw it and just want to see some things close up. Some of the images are pretty trippy like the multitude of flying Mary Poppins and the Tower Bridge with the images lit on them (above). Beijing’s opening was very automaton and synchronized and astounding, this was like an epic opera of social and cultural history only in the way that Boyle could create. This was the Danny Boyle from Shallow Grave and Trainspotting with some Slumdog Millionaire thrown in for good measure.

This is only a sample of all the images from the Opening Ceremony night, but we’ll be putting them all into one huge gallery and then smaller ones broken down by subject and event since my team is covering them and basking in all things English while we’re here.
