Honey Boo Boo Gets ‘South Park’ Treatment

The season finale of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo beat out South Park, so the boys have taken on Alana Thompson and her mom June Shannon in an upcoming episode. Check out the preview clip below which is almost like watching an episode of the TLC show.

It was bound to happen and Honey Boo Boo Child and June Shannon have truly made it into the cultural mainstream now that South Park creators, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, have put them in an episode. It only took a handful of episodes before Saturday Night Live spoofed Alana Thompson’s Honey Boo Boo Child, and now the animated show that spoofs nearly everyone on the cultural radar has joined in. It doesn’t hurt that the show was bested by The Learning Channel (TLC) in the season finale of the hit reality show, so they’re capitalizing on it.

In the clip, Thompson and mom Shannon are shopping for a pig that’s got some reality show pizzazz, and possibly as a Glitzy 2, and it actually feels a little like watching the show. After that dumpster diving shopping episode, it’s hard for the South Park boys to go any more over the top.

The hit show has picked up another supporter, Life’s A Tripp and now Dancing With the Stars contestant, Bristol Palin, has jumped in to say how much of a fan she is of Honey Boo Boo. Now we’ll see if mom Sarah Palin follows suit to generate some press for herself again.

I am a huge South Park fan and I expected them to swing at the low hanging fruit provided by Honey Boo Boo and her family. Granted they're a bunch of heehaws, but it was a shame they were depicted as mean spirited in this parody because that really doesn't seem to be the case, especially compared to the people found in the typical reality show. I would say Honey Boo Boo's family are probably far nicer people than the horrible examples of humanity exhibited by the Kardashians or found on the Jersey Shore.

If anyone deserves the “South Park Treatment”, it is this family. I haven’t followed South Park for years, but I have to see this episode. Sadly, I am stuck sitting in my office at DISH tonight, and I can’t watch it as it airs. Thankfully, I can go online and set my Hopper to record that show and I can watch it when I get home. I already have the debate covered with Primetime Anytime, but I have a feeling that I am going to need something funny to watch after the politicos leave the stage.
