Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has been an instant social phenomenon for TLC, and now Alana Thompson and her family are making sure that Season 2 treats them as well in the bank as Season One did for the Toddlers & Tiaras network.

Toddlers & Tiaras Eden Wood thought she’d take the world by storm when Logo picked up her Eden’s World reality show, but no one saw Here Comes Honey Boo Boo coming down the pike to steamroll her show and become one of TLC’s biggest hits. It’s called The Learning Channel, and one thing Alana Thompson and her family learned in Season 1 was to ask for double their salary for Season 2. This is that rare show that literally popped into the mainstream subconscious and after beating out all individual cable and network broadcasts of the Republican National Convention, it proved that this is what American would rather watch. She even tied in the ratings with Bill Clinton’s Democratic National Convention speech.
TLC cleaned up on the show with 2.1 million viewers tuning into this past week. Honey Boo Boo is another spin-off from TLC’s other controversial show Toddlers & Tiaras and has generated a lot of media commentary. Coming from a family (or at least on my mom’s side) that was pretty similar, their behavior doesn’t seem so shocking to me, but it’s become quite the shocker for many American’s who didn’t grow up in really small town America.
I kept thinking while all the publicity kept spiraling for the show that I hoped the Shannon-Thompson family would get a good agent since these types of series are very short lived as viewers attention spans move on to the next train wreck show. Smartly, the family is asking more much more than their reported $4,000 per episode salary. THR reported that they might have also received a location fee to film in their home. After negotiations, it’s looking like Honey Boo Boo and family will be doubling Season 1′s salary to the tune of $8,000 per episode, and you can be sure they’ll push for 10-13 episodes. I don’t really see the show going into a third season so the family better clean up now while the going’s good because it ends just as quickly as it begins.
Just ask Ryan Lochte.
