‘All Good Things’ Ryan Gosling Movie Gets Hit With Durst Lawsuit
Indie Genius Best Movies Ever
Ryan Gosling isn’t having the best fall for his movies and Best Movies Ever found out that his All Good Things movie has been hit with a lawsuit and his other Blue Valentine still has an NC-17 rating.

Ryan Gosling and Andrew Jarecki‘s long delayed “All Good Things” is now facing yet another hurdle, a lawsuit courtesy of the Durst family, the relatives related to Robert Durst whose misdeeds are profiled in the thinly veiled stand-in character David Marks played by Ryan Gosling in the film. As Best Movies Ever reported that All Good Things had been completed in 2008, but sat in Hollywood Shelf Hell until this December. Now, that could be blocked by this lawsuit from the Durst family who have the money and lawyer to do just that…but they’re up again Magnolia Pictures which is owned by Texas billionaire Mark Cuban.
The Durst’s family attorney sent letters to Director Andrew Jarecki, Magnolia Pictures and the directors agents at CAA letters last month stating, “It is currently our plan to sue Mr. Jarecki and Magnolia if you distribute this film. It appears that the current version of the film defames the Durst and the Durst Organization. We will file the action after the film has been released and run its course, so that our lawsuit will not aid the film’s promotion. We recognize that it is very unlikely that any court will grant a prior restraint enjoining the release of the film.” If Magnolia is smart, they’ll use this or should have used this to promote the film which is scheduled to hit Video On Demand November 5th before it’s December 3rd theatrical release. Sadly, Magnolia hasn’t been so smart with promoting films, and with this one sitting on the shelf for so long, it seems more like they just wanted to dump it quickly and hope to make it back on dvd/blu-ray.
The Durst family does have reason to be nervous since they’re family history is rather tainted with family member Robert Durst, who was questioned in both the disappearance of his first wife Kathleen McCormack (played by Kirsten Dunst in the film) and much later, in the murder of his partner Susan Berman. In 2001 he was tried for the murder of his neighbor Morris Black and was acquitted, but was found guilty of improperly disposing of the body and served nine months. He’s since cut ties with his family completely in exchange for $65 million.
Our source at Magnolia said they move forward with the film which isn’t too hard since they own a string of theaters so it’ll be harder for the Durst family to stop it. Only a court order can do that which could wind up getting much more publicity than the family likes. Since the film has been around since 2008, it seems the family would be smarter to just keep quiet and let it die. As for Ryan Gosling, he must be wondering if his luck is not going so well since his Oscar hopeful Blue Valentine was hit with an NC-17 which the Weinstein Company said they plan to fight.
