Glee Season 5 looks like it’ll be losing yet another castmember, and Samuel Larson is celebrating that freedom by shearing his dreadlocks which easily made him stand out in a crowd or even amongst the students of McKinley High.
The last time an actor did this was the famous Felicity haircut that shocked everyone. Most fans are quite happy with the new look, but even Larson has said that Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy liked the dreads, but now that’s he’s been cut loose, he can do whatever he wants with it.
“‘I called my agent a year ago telling her I wanted to cut my hair because I thought it limited me too much. I wanted to try to get more mainstream roles, and she talked me out of it. I guess that [Glee co-creator] Ryan [Murphy] liked it and I’m okay with that, but I do look at keeping my hair as more of a burden.”
Many fans would disagree about the hair being such a burden (ask Whoopi Goldberg!), but with Glee over, he’s wanting to make sure to not get typecast with the look. For those that don’t remember, he landed the part in the series after winning the The Glee Project season one along with with Damian McGinty.
He had previously auditioned for American Idol in 2010 and made it to Hollywood Week before being cut.
Late last week was when the chopping began.
Samuel clearly felt freer after cutting off all his hair, tweeting last Thursday:
‘Just for the record my neck feels freakin awesome okay. Seriously. #holla’.
His haircut has been a long time in the making.
‘I’m very much over my hair. If it was up to me, I’d have cut it a long time ago,’ he has said many times in interviews.
Here’s who’s returning for next season on Glee. The Glee Project winner of last season Blake Jenner (Ryder), Jacob Artist (Jake), Melissa Benoist (Marley) and Becca Tobin (Kitty) as well as regulars Naya Rivera (Santana), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Darren Criss (Blaine), Lea Michele (Rachel) and Cory Monteith (Finn).
So for all you Joe Hart & Sameul Larson fans, here’s a slideshow of the new hair versus the old style.
