With ticket sales going down, Hollywood keeps finding new ways to keep increasing ticket sales so they can keep saying that the movie biz is booming. Now with 3D movies becoming the norm, 4D is the next wave hoping to pick your pockets to see what Will Smith smells like in ‘Men In Black 3‘.

We can blame James Cameron for making 3D go beyond expectations in ‘Avatar‘ since that led every studio to convert films to 3D (even the Zack Snyder Superman reboot ‘Man Of Steel‘ will be doing it too) for that quick ticket upcharge, and then there was the D-Box which didn’t seem to make that big an impression here in the US so the CJ Group is now banking on people wanting to have even more senses assaulted at the theater. Remember when going to the theaters was for a nice relaxing escape? Here’s the type of things to expect: back ticklers, strobe lights, and smell-o-vision. Yup, that sounds like a great way to relax.

I remember going to a small theater in New York City in the late 90′s that had it where the seats jerked you around along with 3D so you could feel what you were watching. I love rollarcoasters, but after watching all six of their 15-minute movies I felt like I could toss the lunch I’d had a few hours earlier. I can only imagine what a really intense film could do for people who don’t really like rollarcoasters. Naturally, this new technology will add another $8 to your ticket price for this fun.
Right now, the technology is going over very well in South Korea, Thailand and Mexico, but I have a feeling if it hits theaters, it will be that thing people will try once and only die hard fans will fully embrace. The CJ Group is looking to get this into nearly 200 theaters in the next five years beginning with New York and Los Angeles this year. It definnitely sounds like something fun for theme parks, but one thing is that if you see a film that truly sucks, you can say that it also smelled like crap! Just wait till the porn industry gets their hands on this one. You’ll really have an interesting humpy ride!
