Indie Genius Best Movies Ever

Dwayne Johnson finally returns to the genre that made him a star, and while ‘Faster‘ isn’t great, it’s not as bad as some are reviewing. It’s no ‘Unstoppable‘, but’s it a fun film that can wait to be seen on cable/dvd/blu-ray.

Dwayne Johnson made that same mistake that many action stars have done in making one comedy film, and it doing so well, they continued making one after another with diminishing returns until they fade away, and if smart return to the roots that made them. Sylvestor Stallone fell victim to this with some dreadful comedies, and he went the indie route which helped get his career back on track, not to mention Arnold Swartzeneggar who went on to help California continue its decline into debt. Thankfully he’s returned to the genre, but for ‘Faster’ he could have kept The Rock in his name. If he tried his hand at a cool indie film, then I could understand the Dwayne Johnson so as to not alienate his wrestling fans.

Johnson plays Driver a man of few words,whose closet friends are a vintage Chevelle and a snub-nosed revolver. His only seeming purpose is to cross ooff a list of people he intends to kill to avenge the years-ago murder of his older brother, who was ambushed after a successful bank heist. Faster seems to do okay until the subplot involving Billy Bob Thornton as a drug-addicted officer with his female partner Carla Gugino are trying to figure out what is behind the sudden rash of murders.

Naturally, as with this type of B movie, there’s an assassin who’s trying to kill Driver named aptly enough ‘Killer’ played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen who seems to have some with the role that’s pretty one note.

So is faster good or not? Best Movies Ever has to say it’s not bad, and fun for a mindless Saturday afternoon if you’re stuck at the mall with the spouse or significant other and just need an escape from the dreaded shopping. It’s a fun revenge film that, while not the best film for The Rock to return to for his entre back into action adventure film territory, but Dwayne Johnson does a fine job with a threadbare story with a very predictable plot twist. Here’s hoping he moves on to another action film that’s better.

Faster is a fun little action film that would be better served viewing on cable. Dwayne Johnson returns to action films, but he could have chosen a better one for making such a splash at returning to the genre. Just please no ‘Tooth Fairy 3′ or more.
