Best Movies Ever is confused why Anderson Cooper and GLAAD got so up in arms and forced Universal to pull out a couple seconds of dialogue from Vince Vaugh’s The Dilemma movie. We’re gay and we didn’t get offended, but our free speech side did.

Best Movies Ever is a little disappointed with CNN’s Anderson Cooper and GLAAD for creating a media firestorm over something so innocuous as Vince Vaughn’ movie trailer for The Dilemma. What the stink is all about is that at the beginning Vince Vaughn in a meeting talking about cars says “Electric cars are gay,” but what’s been left out is that his next line is “Not homosexual gay, but my parents are chaperoning the school dance gay.” For full disclosure at Best Movies Ever we’re gay, and we are huge proponents of free speech. After hearing all the media stories, we thought maybe there was something offensive, but we finally checked the original trailer out, and we’re very very confused. Especially with someone like Anderson Cooper being so worked up about it. If they were saying ‘electric cars are for fags, etc.’ I could totally understand, but this has been taken so out of context it’s not funny.
The thing with free speech is that all these people and groups fight for it when someone attacks what they’ve said, but they don’t seem to have a problem silencing someone else when they say something they don’t like or agree with. With free speech, if you want it for yourself, you should know that it has to work for everyone. And people do say some fucked up shit, but that doesn’t give us the right to silence them without expecting it to come back around on us eventually. I think what I’m most upset up with is that this has been taken so out of context, and a journalist of Anderson Cooper’s standing should know better.
For me, the only people who should be a little irritated is the electric car makers, and this makes me wonder if they’ve been stirring the pot using this as a way to have that line pulled from the trailer. Especially now that Universal has pulled the line out of The Dilemma movie trailer, it’ll be pulled out of the movie. Once this standard is set, who’s to stop another person from taking an innocuous line from another movie that they don’t like and turning it into another media firestorm? Anderson Cooper, Best Movies Ever loves you, but this is one time we think you have ignored your journalistic responsibility of not including the entire context of what you’re ranting about.
So here’s The Dilemma original movie trailer that we at best movies ever find not offensive at all.
and here’s the edited version for The Dilemma movie that Anderson Cooper and GLAAD’s ranting did. Best Movies Ever is disappointed that Universal and Ron Howard caved to this.
