Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’ Movie Casts It’s Witch With Eva Green
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are moving forward quickly with casting their ‘Dark Shadows‘ movie and tonight just signed Eva Green (Casino Royale) to play the witch Angelique opposite Depp’s Barnabas Collins. More casting continues.
Johnny Depp and Tim Burton’s decades long dream of bringing the cult gothic vampire soap ‘Dark Shadows‘ to the big screen is moving forward quickly as they will begin shooting by the spring of 2011. They’ve just signed on Eva Green, James Bond’s love in ‘Casino Royale‘ to play Angelique, a powerful witch who is alternately tormented and bewitched by her love-hate relationship with Barnabas Collins (Depp). This is another juicy role for the lady who’s been building steam and recently played opposite Ewan McGregor in the romantic thriller Perfect Sense.
In more recent casting news for the ‘Dark Shadows‘ movie, both Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote are about to sign on for roles in the film. Haley is a lock for the role of Willie Loomis which he’s definitely perfect casting for. If you recall or if you bothered to watch the ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ remake, he was the latest Freddy Krueger, but don’t hold that against him. He is perfect for the role of Loomis. Loomis is a notorious con artist who comes to Collinwood bent on swindling the reclusive matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard. He winds up living in the mansion and hatches a plan when he observes a portrait of the late Barnabas Collins, who wore some serious bling. Loomis breaks into the mausoleum and pries open Barnabas’ coffin expecting to steal jewelry, he’s given the shock of his life when he’s attacked by the vampire and rendered the servant and whipping boy of the bloodsucker. The Loomis role was played by James Hall and later John Karlen in the original soap.
Bella Heathcoate is the choice to play Victoria Winters, the young governess of the Collins estate. While every other site was claiming that Heathcoate was set to take the lead role in ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, we already know that Kristen Stewart (Twilight series) as the frontrunner for that role. Heathcoate is another great choice for the role that originated with Alexandra Moltke on the original soap. An interesting note of history. Moltke was Claus Von Bulow’s girlfriend at the time of his murder trial of wife Sonny Von Bulow which was portrayed in ‘Reversal Of Fortune”. Moltke was played by Julie Haggerty in the movie.
