The CW, the child of UPN and the WB, has grown up.
Premiering in 2006, it began as a sweet and innocent teen oriented channel, featuring shows like Gilmore Girls and 7th Heaven. Now, as its original audience enters college, the once chaste network has turned into a “total slut,” say observers.
With new taglines like “SeducTV,” it’s throwing off any pretense of family and focusing on sex, drugs and partying.

“This is a natural part of growing up,” explains CW exec Rick Haskins. “The network is not going to stay young and sweet forever. Just look at the cherubic face of The L.A Complex star Ben Watson (Tariq)…we’ll be turning him out soon enough before he heads over to ABC’s Scandal. We’ll make sure he leaves with one too!”
CW’s sexualization follows in the steps of HBO, once the premiere children’s network on TV, now home to award winning adult series.
Disney, which recently dealt with sex when former Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus called the act “magical,” has tried its hardest to protect itself from channels like the CW.
“We keep the Disney channel on the children’s block of cable,” said Disney exec Anne Sweeney, ”away from those dirty channels like FX, Showtime and the CW.”
But even Sweeney acknowledges Disney will one day grow up. Already the channel has spent more time hanging out with Teen Nick and less time with its little sister station, Disney Jr.
