Channing Tatum’s ‘Magic Mike’ will have a tough time getting many straight guys in the audience as you can see from the latest images, but this film will easily blow up on dvd/blu-ray. Matt Bomer says it’s a ‘coming of age’ stripper film which just makes you smirk.
With Stephen Soderbergh behind the wheel of ‘Magic Mike‘, loosely based on Channing Tatum’s stripper past, it will be interesting to see how the final film comes out. Everyone knows it’s only going to appeal to a certain demographic as Matt Bomer says in the interview below, so when he says it’s a ‘coming of age’ movie, it does make you chuckle when you see guys thrusting their pelvis around while he’s saying this.
While some were speculating if Tatum’s ‘Magic Mike‘ would live up to a hard ‘R’ by showing off his full package, the actor said that there won’t be any full frontal male nudity in this one. You know how he wants to be taken as a serious actor so…
Here’s what Soderbergh had to say about the film. “[Magic Mike is] a comedy. It’s fun. It’s a party. It’s an Altman movie in that sense. It has the kind of feel. It’s not like jokes, but the people are funny… There’s no handheld [camerawork] in ‘Magic Mike’, but it’s a little more choreographed than either of [my recent films]. There’s more opportunity for movement. There are more scenes where there are multiple elements choreographed with the movement of the camera, it’s a little more operatic.”
Saying that this will be like a Robert Altman film if he’d covered the world of male exotic dancing definitely makes you scrunch up your face Renee Zellwegger style, but we’ll see. It seems more like Soderbergh just wanted to have some fun doing all different kind of genres and he’s obviously having a blast. I will say that Bomer looks the youngest and most upbeat one in the pics and Channing with Pettyfer have that been round the block a few times look.
‘Magic Mike‘ opens June 29, 2012, the same day as Tatum’s other opus, ‘GI Joe: Retalation‘.
