Last Christmas had the dark Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and this year, you can do a double header of heavy films with Hugh Jackman’s Les Miserables and Peter Jackson’s documentary about the West Memphis Three entitled West Of Memphis about Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley Jr.

With their ‘Paradise Lost Trilogy’ Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky have shown the power of true documentary filmmaking. ‘Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory’ ends with on a happy yet frustrating note for the real ‘West Memphis Three’.

2011 was quite an interesting year of films with a real grab bag of good and bad and plenty that were nice but that’s about it. Here’s our 2011 Best Movies Ever list of the films we loved the most.

HBO will be airing the Bruce Sinofsky/Joe Berlinger final installment of their ‘Paradise Lost’ trilogy with ‘Purgatory’ next month, but Peter Jackson will be hitting the film circuit next year with his own documentary of the controversial high profile case.

The 85th Academy Awards documentary category has been whittled down to 15 nominated docs including the powerful ‘Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory’ and ‘If A Tree Falls’.

The International Documentary Association (IDA) announced its nominations for the 2011 IDA Documentary Awards this week and one of my favorites ‘How To Die In Oregon’ made the featured category.
