‘Captain America’ Movie Reveals Hugo Weaving’s Red Skull

Early last month we gave you a first look at Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull in Captain America (although in shadow), and now we give you the full close up in his red and leather glory before the official trailer hits this week.

The cool thing is that we’re learning that weapons developer Johann Schmidt (Weaving) was turned into the Red Skull by a Nazi experiment similar to the Super Soldier program that turns little dude Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) into Captian America. This is the typical tale of one person turning evil while the other turns out good to fight the evil one. You can see Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull in full below.

Director Joe Johnston has a sad but realistic take on why Captain America is only being called ‘The First Avenger’ is some areas of the world below.

There was some concern [the name] Captain America will not play in certain countries. If it were up to me I wouldn’t thread the needle so carefully. I’d call it Captain America, since that’s what it is.

Johnston has also explained why Steve Rogers is on a kick the Nazi’s ass hunt too.

For Steve Rogers it’s a very personal thing. At one point he says, “I don’t like bullies, I don’t care where they’re from.” He makes a complete physical transformation to a perfect human specimen. But inside he doesn’t change at all. It must be tempting to go back and say “I’m going to get that guy who beat me up in high school.” He does get revenge in the film, but on the Nazis — not on people who maybe picked on him.

‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ will open in theaters July 22, 2011 with the full name here in North America.

Don't know why they're saying the guy in the beret is French. The obvious would be that it's Percy from the Howling Commandos, though the cast listing implies it's Union Jack. No mention here of the Asian guy being Jim Morita, another Howlers member/ally.

The avengers inniative has been confirmed think. cause the bloke playing Nick Fury signeed a film contract with Marvel? So theyre doing Nick Fury side of a film and the Avengers. And isnt Cap America Human torch?

did anyone notice it said in the trailer "meet the worlds first avenger"? i think there will be an avenger movie in the future. and if u saw the second hulk movie it ties into the avenger thing to.

Wolverine should be integrated on the Avengers movie. It would be cool to see him on a debut in a full costume in the Avengers movie. You can see clearly the cgi on Steve Rogers when he is in chat with the scientist.

@evilmob He wont be playing Human Torch anymore. Fantastic 4 has no effect on the movie universe with The Avengers due to Studio rights (Fantastic 4 is under Fox, Cap is under Paramount/Marvel and more than likely Disney for the sequel)
