Starz is amping up everything we loved about ‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand‘ (sans Andy Whitfield), and the new featurette for ‘Spartacus: Vengeance‘ is full of blood, gore, skin and men in leather holsters. Check out the featurette below.

Our good friends over at Starz tells us that season 2 of ‘Spartacus: Vengeance‘ will mainly be about Rome’s effort to quell the uprising caused by the gladiator rebellion, and stop Spartacus and his army of freed slaves before they have a chance to get completely out of hand. That effort means Spartacus will finally face the man initially responsible for his captivity and the loss of his wife Sura – Gaius Cladius Glaber (Craig Parker, Lord of the Rings). However, with his goal in sight, the Thracian warrior, and newfound leader, must weigh personal satisfaction in vengeance against the larger battle in opposition of tyranny. It’s almost uncanny how Liam McIntyre has been so groomed to look just like Andy Whitfield (even though he did have quite the resemblance to the original Spartacus) that you almost forget that it’s someone different. Starz is really getting behind the guy so much that they’ve already renewed for season three so we’ll see.

‘Spartacus: Vengeance’ hits the small screen January 27th, 2012, but we’ll have an early review up for you.

Spartacus: Vengeance Synopsis

On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic in “Spartacus: Vengeance.” Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops are sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus leads before it can inflict further damage. Spartacus is presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man that condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart. Containing all of the blood-soaked action, exotic sexuality, and villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish the series, the tale of Spartacus resumes in epic fashion.
