Ben Affleck is quickly learning that patience only goes so far. After waiting more than 30 years for her film to hit screens, writer Teresa Harris is furious over director Ben Affleck’s misinterpretation of her sci-fi thriller.
“I was ripped off,” Harris, 63, told media. “I expected some tweaking after the table read, but this was a complete overhaul. It’s a science fiction film, not this drama crap with spies and what not.”
Harris complained about what she called a “meta approach” to her script.
In ‘Argo’ Alan Arkin plays a producer who bought Harris’ script in 1979.
“It might have worked for Adaptationwith Meryl Streep and that Nic Cage, but not here. My script was a totally original story about a simple farm boy, Duke Skyrunner, as he and his allies – Hand Soap, Chewbecca Lowenstein and Obi-two Kenobies – attempt to rescue a Rebel leader, Goddess Leia, from the clutches of the Empire.”
At first Harris was excited to lear that her film was being produced several decades after it had been written.
“When I heard that Alan Arkin from The In-Laws had been cast, I thought he would be a perfect the antagonist, Dark Waiter. But he ended up playing the very same A-hole producer who bought my script in the first place.”
Harris has not been idol for the past 30 years. Since writing and selling Argo she’s written several screenplays, including Avatard, The Avengerers, and the car rental thriller The Hertz Locker.
