Adrien Brody’s ‘High School‘ stoner movie barely escaped Hollywood Shelf Hell when Anchor Bay finally gave the comedy a June release date (semi-wide) after it premiered at Sundance in 2010. Check out the trailer and behind the scenes images below.

You definitely don’t picture Adrien Brody as a drug dealer (unless you’ve seen ‘Son Of Sam’ recently), so ‘High School‘ was an interesting choice for him back in 2009 when this was made and then premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It wasn’t until the recent Sundance fest that this stoner comedy got picked up by Anchor Bay, and they’re giving it a semi-wide release on June, right around Graduation time. They’ve gotten smarter in their marketing, and this could prove to be a nice sleeper summer hit for them since it is funny enough. I wouldn’t rank it up there with ‘Harold & Kumar‘, but it’s worth checking out and the dvd/blu-ray release in the fall will definitely do well for the bottom line.

It’s a pretty simple premise where a soon-to-be valedictorian Henry Burke (Matt Bush), has tried smoking some herb for the first time just as his school principal (Michael Chiklis) institutes a zero tolerance drug policy and administers a mandatory drug test for all students. So he and his stoner friend Breaux (Sean Marquette) cook up a scheme to get everyone in their high school high since no school would dare admit their entire student body was on drugs. To get this big a stash, they steal it from Psycho Ed (Adrien Brody) who used to be a law student but chose faster money with being a drug dealer, but he doesn’t take kindly to thieves. Yup, we know the story well with even ‘Risky Business’ and that everything will all turn out for the best, but it’s fun ride on the way, plus like any ‘Harold & Kumar’ movie, I’m sure many in the audience will have already done their medicinal route ahead of time.

Starring: Adrien Brody, Michael Chiklis, Colin Hanks, Matt Bush, Mykelti Williamson, Yeardley Smith, Michael Vartan, and Curtis Armstrong
Director: John Stalberg Jr.
Release Date: June 1, 2012 (semi-wide)

One good thing is that this one won’t have Adrien Brody wandering around and moaning like that awful ‘Wrecked‘ which proved very true to its name.
