Going up against X Factor USA next month, NBC’s The Voice is changing some of their formatting up, but Adam Levine, Blake Shelon and Christina Aguilera mentors are onboard, but Mark Burnett is hinting that all new judges will be in the magical chairs for season 4.

The Voice might be making big changes for season 3 with Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, but it’s only in format not judges…at least for this season. Simon Cowell’s X Factor USA is definitely on shaky ground going up against this growing powerhouse, and we’ll see if his tossing out Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger to bring on Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will bring him the ratings he so desperately needs. He’s been smart in making sure segments of a tough as nails Spears as judge are creating a curiosity factor.
So for The Voice changes, the biggest one is they’re now encouraging stealing so that after the intense battle rounds, the contestants aren’t necessarily through. The blind auditions are being kept the way we love them with the magical red chairs, but once the Battle Rounds hit, the tension will build. It’s a smart move for Executive Producer Mark Burnett since this will only add more sizzle as fireworks are sure to ensue when one judge steals a castoff from another showing that they could do a better job with them. There’s a video below of Christina Aguilera making up with Adam Levine after last season, but they’ll go at it again this season, especially with this added feature. Unlike X Factor USA and American Idol, Burnett knows not to try to shake everything up, but do minor tweaks that will only make his show more compelling. I wish they could get rid of Christina Milian only because that Sprint room is just annoying.
Another change is that after the Battle Rounds, there will be a new “Knockout” round, in which each team will be ruthlessly cut from 10 artists to just 5. Normally there’s been 6 contestants per judge when it came to the live performances, but this has been whittled down in hopes that viewers will become more familiar with the singers and thus amp up the emotional factor. Otherwise everything else stays the same, and of course by now you know that Cee Lo Green will have a bird rather than his white kitty to stroke.
Mentors for this season are Mary J Blige with Adam Levine, Michael Buble with Blake Shelton, Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day) with Christina Aguilera and Rob Thomas with Cee Lo Green.
As for Season 4, Burnett confirmed it will be mid-season, but, and this could be just because contract time is coming up, he let it slip that Levine, Shelton, Green and Aguilera might not remain in the magical chairs. By this point, viewers have become like family with them, so that’s going to be one of those I’ll believe it when I see it.
