Starz hot hit ‘Spartacus: Vengeance‘ hasn’t even started season 2 yet, but the cable network has already re-upped it for a full season three. Liam McIntyre has obviously given them faith to continue.

It wasn’t long ago that Starz wasn’t sure about the future of their ‘Spartacus’ cable franchise when Andy Whitfield had to leave the show due to his failing health. Oh, how everything’s changed now. Liam McIntyre was brought on to take the reigns of the hit show, and he must have done something right since the show is being given a third season before Season Two has even premiered. That usually doesn’t happen months before a show’s season premiere, so that’s got our expectations rather high. Production for the third season is expected to begin in New Zealand right around the time that the upcoming season premieres on January 27, 2012. You can be sure that Starz will be pimping out McIntyre hard way ahead of time though.

“Many surprises are in store for Vengeance viewers this year, but rest assured the multi-layered plot and richly developed characters will continue to be a trademark of this series,” said exec producer Rob Tapert. In a smart move, they’re building a strong supporting cast around McIntyre, who’ll be joined by joined by returning cast members Lucy Lawless as Lucretia, Peter Mensah as Oenomaus, Manu Bennett as Crixus, Dustin Clare as Gannicus, Nick E. Tarabay as Ashur, and Katrina Law. Cynthia Addai-Robinson joins the series as Naevia, the former body slave to Lucretia who was banished from the Ludus for engaging in a love affair with Crixus.
So you know there’ll be plenty more sex, violence, gore and ancient drama to keep you occupied during the cold winter months of 2012. I, for one, look forward to it!
